2021 Kawa ZX-6R Bench Flashing Harness - Couple of Questions

The bench harness for the 2021 ZX-6R has two ECU connectors. One has a black backing plate with 4 wires installed; the other has a grey backing plate with one black (ground?) wire installed.

I assume that both of these must be connected while writing to the ECU, and that they are connected to the correspondingly colored connector on the ECU: black backing plate to black ECU connector, grey backing plate to grey ECU connector.

Correct?

Also: When beginning the write process, do I begin with the flash harness connectors connected to the ECU, or not?
