ECU NOT RESPONDING/COMMUNICATING 2016 R1S

I JUST INSTALLED A BIKE-SIDE HARNESS TO FLASH THE BIKE FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR A NEW EXHAUST. I HAVE RE-TRIED THE "WRITE" FOUR TIMES AND GET THE SAME MESSAGES:
FIRST IS THE MESSAGE THAT NO REGISTERED ECU IS FOUND. IT ASKS ME IF I WOULD LIKE TO APPLY MY ONE LICENSE TO THIS ECU. I RESPOND "OK". THEN THE SYSTEM GOES THROUGH SOME MOTIONS AND EVENTUALLY ENDS UP WITH THE "WRITE ATTEMPT FAILED. PLEASE RETRY".
I HAVE PULLED THE ECU PLUGS OUT TWICE TO BE SURE THAT THEY ARE WIRED AS PER THE DIAGRAMS IN THE INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR PROGRAMMING HARNESS TYPE 8.
I HAVE SEARCHED THE FORUM REPEATEDLY FOR INSTUCTIONS ON THE BIKE SIDE HARNESS TEST, BUT I HAVE FOUND NOTHING THAT EXPLICITLY TELLS ME HOW THAT DIAGNOSTIC WORKS.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I DID FIND A COMMENT BY TODD, IN ANOTHER THREAD, THAT INIDICATED THAT MAYBE ONE OF MY HARNESS WIRES WAS NOT CONTACTING ITS APPROPRIATE PLUG-PIN CORRECTLY. I PULLED THE PLUGS A THIRD TIME, UNLOCKED THE MAIN PLUG AND STARTED PULLING/PUSHING THE THREE (RED, YELLOW, ORANGE) HARNESS WIRES INTO THEIR RESPECTIVE PLUG LOCATIONS. THE RED WIRE MOVED A BIT WHEN THE OTHER TWO WOULD NOT. I RE-SEATED IT AND LOCKED THE PLUG AGAIN. HOOKED IT BACK TO THE BIKE AND TRIED ANOTHER WRITE EVENT.
IT WORKED!
SO, THE ONE WIRE WAS SEATED ENOUGH THE PLUG LOCK ENGAGED THE FIRST TIME, BUT IT WAS NOT TRULY SEATED ENOUGH TO MAKE THE PROPER CONNECTION.
